Aurora Borealis in Kansas

Just came across this photo of an aurora borealis in Kansas in 2004:

I'd love to see these in my lifetime.

Glow in the dark bricks

Inhabitat has an article about an acrylic brick that has a light bulb encased in it. The light bulb contains phosphorescent material that is charged up by sunlight and glows in the dark for up to 3 hours. It's meant to be used as a portable cordless nightlight, and can be purchased here.

Glowing mushrooms found in Brazil

National Geographic reports that a group of bioluminescent fungi were found in the forest outside of São Paulo, Brazil.

Power strip with glowing cord

Anton Gustafsson and Magnus Gyllenswård of The Interactive Institute designed the Power Aware power strip. The cord on this power strip glows and pulses, showing you how much energy you are using. The EL wires inside the cord change brightness and pulse intensity based on how much energy is flowing through the cord, meaning that if you're using a lot of electric appliances, the cord on the power strip will make your room seem like a rave.

The creators hope that the visual presence of the glowing cord will lead users to be aware of and reflect on energy consumption.
